WW-PS smacks 16 hits in victory over Hopewell

PRINCETON JCT. >> The West Windsor South softball team got its season off to a nice start Tuesday by outsluggin­g Hopewell Valley for a 15-9 win.

South exploded at the plate with 16 hits, including three by Sam Schat- tin. Courtney Skolka led the RBI parade with four, and Sharon Lam and Catie Raeter each drove in two. In addition, Taylor Britt tripled, homered and knocked in three.

Rachel Julius was the winning pitcher. Nicole Apai, Cayleigh Keenan, Bailey Coughlin and Katie Vannozzi had two hits for the Valley Girls. STEINERT 13, TRENTON 2 HAMILTON TWP. >> Morgan Comfort got the win with eight strikeouts in five innings. She allowed just one hit. Batting-wise, Steinert got a two-run homer from Kayle Wise and three RBIs from Grace Sperrazza. In addition, Tyler Valenza homered for the Spartans (1-1), who will travel to Robbinsvil­le today. PRINCETON 3, HAMILTON 2 PRINCETON >> Kayla Volante got the win with a four-hitter and 11 strikeouts. She took a shutout into the seventh inning. Natali Campisi led Princeton at the plate with a single and triple. Stephanie Wu also tripled and drove in a run for the winners. Grace Cooke pitched well in defeat with a seven-hitter. HUN 11, PEDDIE 10 HIGHTSTOWN >> The Raiders opened their season on a winning note in a wild slugfest. Julie Fassl doubled and homered for Hun, and Sydnen Hixenbaugh homered for Peddie, which also got a double and two RBIs by Carly Hattman. Julia Revock struck out eight for the win.
