Steinert’s Wise among scholarshi­p winners at HOF banquet

Among the very deserving scholarshi­p winners at this year’s Trenton Softball Hall of Fame banquet will be Steinert senior pitcher Kaley Wise.

Wise really came on last year to lead Steinert to a 22-5 record, a berth in the Central Jersey Group III championsh­ip game and the No. 2 ranking in The Trentonian’s Ratings.

For her efforts, she was named to The Trentonian’s All-Colonial Valley Conference first team and the AllArea second team. She was also a member of the 2015 Mercer County Carpenter Cup squad that enjoyed much success before coming up just short at the end.

A hard-throwing righty who also packs punch at the plate, Wise will play next year at Alvernia Univeristy in Reading, Pennsylvan­ia, where she plans to pursue a degree in elementary education.

“I hope some day to teach in the Trenton/Mercer area and give back to the community I live in,’’ said Wise, who has been playing softball since she was 6 years old and has also participat­ed in field hockey and basketball.

In addition to her pitching skills, Wise hits in one of the power slots in the Steinert order and is one of the team’s leaders. Her pitching record last year was 17-5. She hit .over 300 and also drove in 25 runs. THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF THISYEAR’SINDUCTEES:

This year’s scholarshi­p winners in softball are Nottingham’s Kristen Hallam, Steinert’s Kaley Wise and Notre Dame’s Amanda Ferlisi. The baseball players receiving scholarshi­ps are NOtre Dame’s Thomas Persichett­i, Steinert’s Sean Boyle and Hopewell Valley’s Gregory Gasparro.

The banquet begins at 4 p.m. and will be held on the Sunday of April 24 at Stone Terrace in Hamilton Township. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased in advance by calling Artie Kearns at 609771-6143 or Tomi DeVito at 732-986-3184. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
