John ‘Jack’ Martin Lally Jr. of Ewing
John “Jack” Martin Lally Jr., 72, of Ewing, passed away peacefully at home early Monday August 22, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.
John was born in Trenton and was raised in Hamilton Township. He later resided in Ewing Township.
John earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from Seton Hall University. He obtained a Master of Arts Degree in School Guidance and Counseling from Rider University. He also studied at St. Mary Seminary and Mount St. Mary Seminary in Maryland and St. Thomas Seminary in Connecticut.
He was New Jersey certified as a Teacher and a Guidance Counselor. He was a teacher, guidance counselor, and coach at St. Anthony High School.
He then worked for the N.J. Department of Education as an Education Program Specialist with the Office of Nonpublic School Services, and he retired from the NJ Department of Education in 2008. He also worked part-time in the Graduate Office at The College of New Jersey.
John was an active member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in West Trenton where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and a Reader. He was active with the Board at Trenton Catholic Academy in Hamilton Township. He was active in the Ewing Democratic Club and was Committeeman for the 19th District in Ewing Township. He served on Ewing Recreation Commission and was a coach in Ewing Township for Girls softball, soccer and basketball.
John’s greatest joy in life was his family: wife, daughters, son-in law, and grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father grandfather, and friend.
John was treated at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia for Cancer. John and his family were very grateful for the care, kindness, and support of the Doctors, especially Doctor Astsaturov; and the Nurses, especially Melissa Runyen and Trish Molleni.
John was predeceased by parents, Margaret (Kontura) Lally and John Martin Lally; by his brother, Vincent Lally; and by his motherin-law and father-in law, Thomas and Dorothy O’Hara. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn (O’Hara) Lally; a daughter and son-in law, Erin Patricia Spina and Christopher Francis Spina; daughters Caitlin Maura Lally and Bridget Maureen Lally; by grandsons, Brayden Thomas Spina and Ryan Patrick Spina; his sister-in-law, Carol Barrett and her husbandJim, and his nephew Shawn Kevin Patrick Lally and family. In addition, many close friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, from 5 – 8 p.m., and Saturday, from 8 – 9 a.m., at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing. Words of Remembrance will be spoken on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 W. Upper Ferry Road, W.
