Michael D. McCoy of Hamilton

Michael D. McCoy, 68, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 19, 2016 at Compassionate Care Hospice at RWJUH at Hamilton with his loving family by his side.

Born in Trenton, Mike was a lifelong area resident.

He was a graduate of Hamilton High West, class of 1965, and a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam.

Mike was a very talented musician. One of the first bands that Mike played with was The Twilighters, performing on the Tony Grant Stars of Tomorrow Show on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. He was an exceptional bass player and songwriter, particularly with lyrics. Although not a formal member of the band Wind, Mike was a major contributor and collaborator and often performed with the band. He also played with Bobby Hartnagle. Mike was also in a band with his very dear friend Sam Masiello called the Backwoods, that played throughout the Trenton area, and also with his dear friend Ernie White that played throughout the Mercer County area.

Mike also played with many famous musicians, including Vinnie Mad Dog Lopez, the original drummer for Bruce Springsteen, Paul Whistler, in a band called Dawg Whistle, from Asbury Park, Willie Nelson and appeared with Richie Sambora.

In addition to being a fine musical talent, Mike was an avid bow hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed cooking, and was a chef for many restaurants throughout the area.

Son of the late Richard J. and Eleanore D. Jaruszewski McCoy, Sr., brother of the late Richard J. McCoy, Jr.; he is survived by his son, Michael D. McCoy - Mumola and wife Paula Mumola of Springfield Township, NJ; his daughter, Kerry Kelly and husband Brian Kelly of North Carolina; his children’s mother, Patricia Mumola; his three granddaughters, McKenzie, Kayla, and Brianna; his sister, Patricia R. Sedor, who he affectionately called “Pete”, and husband Joseph J. Sedor, Sr.; his nephew, Joe Sedor, Jr., and wife Megan, and children, Joey and Jessica; his two nieces, Stephanie Warner and husband Thomas, and children, Andrew and Brianna, and Marnie Mccoy and fiancée Richard Mero, Jr.; and many cousins and dear friends.

Mike McCoy was an original. A spark of life. The best friend a man could hope to have. He will be missed.

The family will receive visitors on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Ave., in Hamilton.

Services will begin at 8 p.m. with music and military honors at the funeral home.

Burial will be private at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.
