Top-seeded Pennington looking to defend MCT title

The defending champion Pennington School boys soccer team came away with the top seed when the Mercer County Tournament boys soccer pairings were announced late last week.

Coach Chad Bridges’ 110-2 team will await the winner of a play-in game between 17th-seeded Ewing High (2-9) and 16th-seeded Lawrence High (3-10).

Ewing is scheduled to play Lawrence at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Bill Zimmer Field. The winner will play at Pennington Thursday in the first round.

With 18 county teams entering this fall, there will be a second play-in game at 4 p.m. Tuesday as 18thseeded Hightstown (4-11) visits 15th-seeded Notting- ham (3-9-1). That winner will play at second-seeded Princeton (13-1) Thursday.

Other first-round games Thursday will be ninthseede­d Allentown (4-7-1) at eighth-seeded West Windsor-Plainsboro South (8-5), 12th-seeded Steinert (4-81) at fifth-seeded Robbinsvil­le (11-3-1), 13th-seeded Hun School (5-8) at fourthseed­ed Trenton High (102), 14th-seeded Hamilton (4-9) at third-seeded Hopewell Valley (13-2), 11th-seeded Notre Dame (6-8) at sixth-seeded Princeton Day School (9-5-1) and 10th-seeded Trenton Catholic Academy (4-6-1) at seventh-seeded West WindsorPla­insboro North (9-4-1).

Quarterfin­al action will be played Saturday, Oct. 22. Consolatio­n games will be at dates and times to be announced.

The sites for the semifinal round Monday, Oct. 24 will also be determined by which teams remain.

The MCT boys final will be played at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 at The College of New Jersey. hat trick and Eric Broadway’s two goals helped the Red Raiders coast past the Vikings by scoring seven times in the first half.
