Dorothy Elnora ‘Sis’ Carey of Trenton
Dorothy Elnora “Sis” Carey, 92, of Trenton, departed this life on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Compassionate Care Hospice at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.
Born in Capeville, VA, Dorothy was educated in the Northampton County Public School System. She did farm labor as a young lady and later moved to Trenton, where she began working at a nursing home and in private residences.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Clifton Carey, Sr.; her parents, Benjamin and Elnora Smith Weeks; two sons, Grover Clifton Carey, Jr. and Carrington “Jack” Carey; two sisters, Rena Hickman and Susie Anna Stafford; four brothers, Benjamin Jr., Martine, Seven, and Sterling Weeks; and one son-in-law, Samuel Reed Sr..
She is survived by her daughters, Patsy “Mice” Reed, Portia “Diann” Jones (Walter), and Carolton “Jill” Miller (Joshua); two sons, Russell “Dean” Carey, Sr. (Mary) and Gordon Carey (Irene); one sister, Juanita Land (James) of Capeville, VA; one brother, Major Weeks of VA Beach, VA; one sister-in-law, Doll Bea of Heathville, VA; one daughter-in-law, Eunice Carey of Trenton; 18 grandchildren, including two who were caregivers, Veronica Graham and Barbara Joann Reed; 40 great grandchildren; 31 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at noon at Campbell Funeral Chapel, 1225 Calhoun St., Trenton, NJ.
Interment will be in Colonial Memorial Park.
A calling hour will be held, from 11 a.m. to noon, at the chapel.
