Rancocas Valley bests Cherokee in SJ IV bracket

EASTAMPTON >> The Rancocas Valley softball team (19-3) won a big Burlington County collision in the South Jersey Group IV bracket on Tuesday when it posted a 7-4 victory over Cherokee (17-8).

Ange Dunphy pitched an eight hitter and struck out four for the win with help from a two-inning save by Shyla Pastore. Julie Contravo was big at the plate with a double, triple and two RBIs. Contravo was 3-for-3 in all. In addition, Gianni Guerriero also doubled and drove in a run along with Shauna Nuss. Jocelyn Lawrence and Jalian Young both had two hits for RV.

There was more good news for the Hollies because it won’t have to face Grace Fagan again after Clearview defeated No. 2 seed Kingsway, 2-0. RV will host Clearview Thursday. SENECA 6, CUMBERLAND 4 SEABROOK >> This was a huge win for Seneca as it knocked out the top seed. Eliza Sweet scattered 10 hits and struck out eight for the win. Kristen Szurley homered for Seneca and drove in three runs. Madison Melvin singled and doubled, and Sweet also drove in two runs. Seneca is now 13-7 and will travel to Lacey in the next round. DELRAN 7, MIDDLE TOWNSHIP 4 DELRAN >> The Bears (13-9) also advanced when Haley Prem and Lindsey Cramer combined on a seven-hitter. Anissa Spano tripled and drove in three runs. Alexis Rider and Nicole Travis both went 3-for-4. Delran will be home in its next game against Manchester Township.
