Pennsbury eliminated from playoffs by Pennridge

- Staff Report

FAIRLESS HILLS, PA. >> The Pennsbury High softball team met the end of the line in the PIAA District 1 Class AAAAAA Tournament Tuesday when it was upset by Pennridge, 5-1.

Pennridge was the No. 19 seed and Pennsbury was the No. 14, but it was the Perkasie club taking control with a five-run outburst in the top of the fifth inning.

Kailyn Bell was the big story in this game. In addition to allowing just one run when Pennsbury scored in the bottom of the fifth, Bell blasted a grand slam after the Rams had loaded the bases on a couple of bloop hits. The Pennridge catcher then hit another home run to complete her team’s scoring.

Pennsbury got a double from Allison Rose and six strikeouts from Alyssa Hileman.

Pennsbury’s undoing was its inability to get hits with runners in scoring position. This included the seventh inning when the Falcons loaded the bases with two outs.

“We left 13 runners on base,” said Pennsbury coach Frank McSherry. “We just needed to put the ball in play and we weren’t able to do it.”

Pennsbury finished with a record of 12-6 after posting its first losing season in school history last season.

Neshaminy learned who it’s opponent will be Wednesday afternoon after Council Rock South beat Central Bucks East, 4-3. Neshaminy beat Rock South twice during the regular season in two competitive games.
