Hamilton elementary school teacher arrested for allegedly shoplifting >>
HAMILTON » A township elementary school teacher was taught a lesson in stealing.
Marisa Naro, 29, of the first block of Erica Lynne Way, was arrested Sept. 10 for shoplifting at the ShopRite on Route 33 in Hamilton Township, officials said Thursday.
Naro is a special education teacher at Langtree Elementary School, according to information posted on the Hamilton Township School District’s website.
The district has placed an employee on paid administrative leave pending further investigation, according to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Scott Rocco. He would not confirm the identity of the arrested employee, calling it a “personnel matter.”
“We have been notified of the allegations,” he said. “We were notified the arrest was made.”
Sources with intimate of the situation identified that employee as Naro.
According to Naro’s classroom homepage, the teacher said it is her eighth year teaching in the district.
“During the last four school years, I have taught at Sayen Elementary and also at Yardville Elementary as a Resource Room teacher,” Naro wrote. “This is my third year here at Langtree School and I absolutely love what I do!”
Naro, a Hamilton resident, said she graduated from Steinert High School in 2006 and received her teaching degree from Rowan University. She has also taught summer programs at the Mercer County Special Services School District in 2008 and 2009.
“My experience in multiple Special Education classrooms and facilities has given me the opportunity to expand my teaching practices and truly grow as an individual,” she states on her classroom webpage. “I am very fortunate to have had such a wellrounded teaching experience thus far and I look forward to another great year!”
According to records, Naro earned a salary of $48,974 last year.
However, combined with her husband’s salary, the couple earned more than $150,000 last year, which makes the alleged theft a head-scratcher.
Naro is married to Hamilton firefighter Anthony Naro. He is a captain in Mercerville Hamilton Township Fire District #2 for Station 12 and earned $104,075 last year, records show.
Hamilton police could not immediately provide further details of the teacher’s arrest on Thursday night.
On her Facebook page, the educator said she is also a community manager for Bambino Sitters, which is a babysitting app.
Marisa Naro did not return a message seeking comment.
