Serenity Garden to host a reading, education and book giveaway event
A city garden which offers myriad interpretations for peace discovery and dealing with effects of violence serves as a destination place for a Holistic Literacy Experience.
The Serenity Garden on the corner of Bellevue Ave. and Prospect St., founded in April 2013 as a creation by and for communities and residents who have experienced violence continues a mission for resolution and acceptance.
Healing hopes continue on Saturday, Oct. 7 as The Serenity Garden hosts a reading, education and book giveaway event from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“One of the ways to stem violence in our community is to advocate for literacy and education, to present options to people who have lost hope and don’t believe they can succeed,” says Ivey Avery.
Avery offered several descriptions for The Serenity Garden, calling it “a place of beauty, peace and healing out of the ashes of sorrow; an oasis of hope in the middle of an urban community and proof that there are people who care about where they live.”
Event organizers said they want to witness an end to the violence that “plagues our community.” They voiced a commitment “to build a brighter future, especially for children.”
Clubs and organizations will be present to share information with the community and to give away books to book lovers and readers who attend.
