New Egypt edges Florence in shootout

FLORENCE » The New Egypt High boys soccer team used a penaltykic­k shootout to advance in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group I Tournament Friday.

After playing to a 2-2 tie with thirdseede­d Florence for 100 minutes, the teams went to penalty kicks to decide who would advance.

Even though the Flashes held a lead midway through the penalty kicks, the 11th-seeded Warriors rallied to win, 5-4, in sudden death.

New Egypt (11-8-1) advances to play Tuesday at second-seeded Asbury Park (15-4) after the Bishops defeated 10th-seeded South Amboy, 9-2.

During regulation, Chase Sempervive had a goal and an assist for the Warriors, while Nick Hazel ended his career with two more goals for Florence, giving him 44 on the season.
