TRENTON » Greater Trenton, an independent 501c-3 nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting economic revitalization in New Jersey’s capital city, today announced that St. Francis Medical Center has joined its board of directors, adding to Capital Health and a growing mix of organizations including Bristol Myers Squibb, Investors Bank, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, NJM Insurance Group, Princeton Area Community Foundation, Princeton University, PSEG, TD Bank, Thomas Edison State University, and Wells Fargo Bank.

“We’re pleased to have St. Francis Medical Center on board as we work together to meet the goals and ambitions of Trentonians and those who care deeply about the city’s capital,” said Bernie Flynn, cochair of Greater Trenton and President and Chief Executive Officer of NJM Insurance Group. “Ultimately, St. Francis Medical Center, in conjunction with all supporting organizations, will help tremendously in our efforts to partner in projects and partnerships that result in a vibrant downtown Trenton for residents, community institutions, and businesses.”

Greater Trenton, which was created to advance economic development and revitalization in New Jersey’s capital city, grew out of conversations that began in 2013 among individuals who shared a commitment to the city’s revitalization. After eliciting ideas and aspirations from the community and expanding outreach to new partners and neighbors, the organization developed a 2017 – 2020 Strategic Plan, which articulates Greater Trenton’s mission framework and maps strategic goals that are designed to catalyze – and sustain – development in the capital city.

“Since our founding over 143 years ago, St. Francis Medical Center has been a beacon of hope and health for the people of Trenton,” said Dr. Joseph Youngblood II, Chair of St. Francis Medical Center’s Board of Trustees. “We’re excited to join Greater Trenton’s Board, and we look forward to collaborating with Trentonians and other organizations to support the city’s revitalization.”

St. Francis Medical Center was founded in 1874 by the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia as Trenton’s first hospital. Today, it is an acute care teaching hospital with more than 300 medical staff physicians representing all specialties and a member of the Trinity Health System. Known as the Heart Hospital, St. Francis is Mercer County’s only comprehensive cardiac surgery program.

“Trenton is fortunate to have many dedicated residents and leaders, anchor institutions and organizations, and businesses and investors that are working every day to make our city a wonderful place for everyone,” said Anthony Cimino (Skip), co-chair of the Greater Trenton and Partner at Kaufman Zita Group, representing Princeton Area Community Foundation. “Greater Trenton complements the work of our partners and neighbors by serving as an expert resource to businesses, developers, and community partners to facilitate the development and revitalization of downtown Trenton.”
