Wicked weather postpones MCT championship game
The rain and a bleak forecast through the weekend have caused havoc with the high school softball schedule.
The Mercer County Tournament championship game between Robbinsville and Steinert at Armstrong Park in Ewing scheduled for Wednesday night was postponed and has been rescheduled for the Tuesday night of May 22. The starting time will remain the same at 7 p.m.
A game of note pitting Neshaminy at Northern Burlington that was scheduled for Thursday night has been completely canceled. Instead, Northern Burlington has pushed its Thursday state tournament game in the afternoon against Ocean back to the later starting time of 7 p.m.
Among the state tournament games scheduled for Wednesday and moved to Thursday were Allentown at Ewing and South Amboy at New Egypt.
Because more rain is projected, the NJSIAA has also altered its state tournament schedule.
The first-round games in the public school brackets are now to be completed by May 21. Quarterfinal-round sectional games are to be played by May 23 and the semifinals are set for May 25.
The parochial bracket firstround games are also to be played by this upcoming Monday with the parochial quarters set for May 24.
The sectional finals in all the brackets remain on May 29, followed by the state semifinals on May 31 and the state championship games on June 2 and 3.
