1. Back in 1901, Henry Dunant won the first Nobel Peace Prize for creating this humanitari­an organizati­on that treats victims of armed conflict, and has itself won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1917, 1944, and 1963.

2. Not only is she the first female Nobel laureate, she was the first person to win twice and the first person to win in two different fields, having won in 1903 for Physics and 1911for Chemistry.

3. The 1907Nobel Prize for Literature went to this Anglo-Indian, whose upbringing just so helped him write his most famous book about a feral child in the Indian jungle.

4. He has only the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics, and now his name is synonymous with “genius,” if for nothing else getting out of Germany once Hitler took control.

5. This Scottish biologist made his revolution­ary discovery in 1928, but didn’t win the Nobel Prize in Medicine until 1945, after Allied forces took the drug he called “mold juice” and produced it en masse as penicillin.

6. Though remembered more as a leader than an author, this Briton nonetheles­s wrote the book on the Second World War, called “The Second World War,” because you write what you know, and for that he won the 1953Nobel Prize in Literature.
