PISCATAWAY >> Rutgers women’s basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer is on the brink of history.
Charise Wilson scored 14 points, Noga Peleg Pelc added 11 and the Scarlet Knights gave Stringer her 999th career victory with a 61-47 win over Stony Brook on Friday afternoon.
Stringer has a 999-402 career record and is likely to join the exclusive 1,000 club on Tuesday when Rutgers (2-0) hosts Central Connecticut State.
“I’m trying to compartmentalize,” Stringer said in her postgame press conference. “I’m excited because opportunities like this for most people don’t come at all.”
