Cannady powers Princeton men’s hoops past Maine
BANGOR, MAINE >> Devin Cannady exploded for 20 of his game-high 28 points in the second half and the Princeton men’s basketball team beat Maine, 73-59, on Wednesday night for its second straight win.
Already on his way to becoming the best 3-point shooter in program history, Cannady knocked down five of his eight attempts from beyond the arc and finished 7-for-10 overall from the field.
The senior from Indiana was also a perfect 9-for-9 form the free throw line.
Richmond Aririguzoh chipped in 10 points for the Tigers (3-2). Princeton shot 50 percent (11-for-22) on 3-pointers.
Isaiah White and Andrew Fleming had 19 points each for the Black Bears (07).
RUTGERS 57, MIAMI 54 CORAL GABLES, FLA. >> Geo Baker posted a game-high 16 points and the Scarlet Knights (4-1) picked up a rare road win against a power conference opponents when they held off the Hurricanes (5-1) in the ACC/ Big Ten Challenge.
Baker has now reached double figures in all five contests this season.
Peter Kiss added 12 points for Rutgers.
Women’s Basketball
RIDER 67, NJIT 46 LAWRENCEVILLE >> Stella Johnson scored 22 points, Lea Favre added 20 and the Broncs (3-4) cruised past the Highlanders (1-7).
Favre was 10-for-16 from the field as she recorded her career high in points. VILLANOVA 67, PRINCETON 46 VILLANOVA, PA. >> The Tigers (1-7) continued to struggle without star forward Bella Alarie, dropping their seventh straight game against a brutal schedule.
Gabrielle Rush was the line Princeton player to reach double figures with 13 points.
Adrianna Hahn netted a game-high 17 points for the Wildcats (4-2).
