PRINCETON >> Princeton may have been riding a three-game winning streak, but a game against St. Joseph’s was going to be a better barometer for where Mitch Henderson’s team is at after seven games.

The Tigers didn’t play badly against a side picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10.

St. Joseph’s just had too much offensive firepower even though star forward Charlie Brown Jr. left with a foot injury early in the second half.

Lamarr Kimble scored all 22 of his points in the second half after Brown exited and the Hawks beat the Tigers for a fourth consecutive year following a 92-82 victory on Wednesday night at Jadwin Gymnasium.

Kimble had 13 of his points during a 21-9 push by the Hawks (5-4) that gave them a 60-45 lead with 14 minutes remaining.

Princeton (4-3) hung around behind Devin Cannady (23 points) and cut the deficit to six after Jerome Desrosiers canned a 3-pointer with 6:01 left, but the key sequence went against the Tigers.

Princeton got a stop on the next possession thanks to a terrific hustle play by Cannady, but St. Joe’s won the race to a loose ball and turned it into a Markell Lodge dunk — his fourth slam of the game. Kimble then converted a three-point play on the Hawks’ next trip to push the lead back to 11.

Jared Bynum scored 19 points and Taylor Funk had 16 for St. Joe’s, which shot 55 percent from the f loor.

Richmond Aririguzoh scored 14 points and Jose Morales had 13 for the Tigers.

DC for 3

Cannady’s corner 3-pointer with 14:12 left in the first half was the 236th of his career and moved him alone into third place on the program’s all-time list.

The senior has a chance to break Brian Earl’s record of 281, which the now Cornell head coach set between 1995-99.

Cannady later missed his first free throw of the season after connecting on his first 17 attempts. The miss came after he fell hard to the floor trying to dunk over a defender. He recovered to make the second attempt.

Cannady entered play as a 90.8 percent career free throw shooter.

Up Next

Princeton hops on the train for a Sunday matinee against St. John’s at Madison Square Garden. It will be the first meeting between the Tigers and Red Storm since 1982 and Princeton’s first trip to MSG since 2000 when it played Penn State and Rutgers there on back-toback days.
