The Cap­i­tal City Area Black Cau­cus con­tin­ues Satur­day, De­cem­ber 8 as Tren­ton Schools Su­per­in­ten­dent Fred McDow­ell and Tren­ton Pub­lic Schools Pres­i­dent Gene Bouie present a vi­sion for ed­u­ca­tion.

John Bai­ley cre­ated the se­ries but other obli­ga­tions in his cur­rent home of Den­ver has pre­sented Free­holder Sam Frisby as this week’s mod­er­a­tor of the monthly se­ries en­ti­tled “Ed­u­ca­tion in the Tren­ton Pub­lic Schools: A Vi­sion For Our Chil­dren.” Frisby noted the im­por­tance of ed­u­ca­tion as Tren­ton at­tempts re­vi­tal­iza­tion.

The dis­cus­sion be­gins at noon at the Tren­ton YMCA lo­cated at 431 Pen­ning­ton Ave. in Tren­ton.

“If the City of Tren­ton is go­ing to re­bound and be as strong as any other place in our county, state and coun­try then ed­u­ca­tion has to be the foun­da­tion. A strong ed­u­ca­tional sys­tem will at­tract more peo­ple into the city and of­fer com­fort to the peo­ple al­ready liv­ing here. Hon­esty, we’ve had a lot of fam­i­lies move out be­cause the ed­u­ca­tion sys­tem is not strong,” Frisby, ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor of the Tren­ton YMCA, ex­plained.

“So, we need to have this con­ver­sa­tion. We’re look­ing to give par­ents a chance to en­gage the lead­ers, to have a di­alogue about ed­u­ca­tion. It’s the most im­por­tant is­sue we’re fac­ing.”

Bai­ley cre­ated the “Tren­ton Fu­ture Se­ries” af­ter play­ing a key role in the elec­tion of Reed Gus­ciora as Tren­ton mayor. His new ini­tia­tive mis­sions to em­power res­i­dents, giv­ing them in­sights and ed­u­ca­tion to im­prove their lives, com­mu­ni­ties and fu­tures through col­lab­o­ra­tion.

Bai­ley notes that “ci­ti­zen in­volve­ment and com­mu­nity ac­tion is im­por­tant in mov­ing Tren­ton for­ward.”
