Sahithi Muthyala of Hightstown High School

-

Sahithi Muthyala is currently a senior attending Hightstown High School. Since she was young, she has always put others before herself and has found great satisfaction in helping people succeed. When she used to figure skate in elementary and middle school, she helped teach toddlers and adults at the beginner and advanced levels. She knew that she was helping people, but she never thought of it as volunteering and knew that she was rather doing what she loved.

During her first two years in high school, Sahithi mentored and tutored younger students and wanted to help make education more accessible to underprivileged students in the community. At the end of her sophomore year, she approached three of her friends with the idea of starting a volunteerbased free-of-charge tutoring program at the local library. Learning 360 was launched at the start of her junior year and has helped over twenty-five local students better themselves in a wide-range of subject areas and Sahithi is very excited about the future of her program. She is truly a member of the community and never minds helping fellow students prepare for tests at lunch or giving them advice as to how they may want to go about resolving some issues that they are dealing with. Being a member of the community has always been a part of who Sahithi is and she strives to better herself by becoming more of a universal citizen.

Aside from being passionate about helping others, Sahithi loves math and tech and also enjoys playing varsity tennis, reading, and spending time with her family. She is proud of being the president of the Coding for Girls club that she has started and taught at her school since her sophomore year. Sahithi has also promoted math for girls for two consecutive years by presenting math tricks at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory’s Young Women’s Conference in STEM at Princeton University. Additionally, she is an integral part of the following clubs at her high school: STEM Club (Vice President), Math League, National Honor Society, Math National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and Helping Hands.

Sahithi looks forward to attending college in the fall to pursue a major in computer science. She also plans on continuing to mentor and support students and those around her. In the future, Sahithi hopes to be working on projects that fuse different subjects together to benefit target communities. She specifically wants to be working on empowering women and making education more accessible on a larger scale by using her programming skills.
