Tyonne White of Trenton Central High School

-

Tyonne White is one of the standout seniors of Trenton Central High School’s Class of 2019.

Born in Virginia, Tyonne has been attending Trenton Public Schools consistently since the seventh grade. Tyonne’s father passed away when he was eleven years old. This lead to the his mother giving him guidance and support, sitting down with him everyday afterschool to make sure that he completed his work and stayed on top of his assignments.

While attending Dunn Middle School the head of Children’s Home Society of NJ’s KIKS program, Mykal Pemberton, pulled Tyonne into a meeting to join the KIKS peer leaders program. As a member of the peer leaders program, he helped to engage and teach students in the sixth grade things such as the six pillars of character and important life building skills. While a member of that program, he also attended the Children’s Home Society of NJ’s Positive

Impact program. In this program, he meet and had the opportunity to engage with high schoolers who were a part of the GoGetters Program. As Tyonne transitioned into high school, he contacted the GoGetters program head, Louise Mccants, who was allowed him to mentor middle school student at Dunn Middle School over the past four years with Tyonne accumulating over 500 hours of community service. The opportunity to go back and serve the students at that attended the same school that he did has been very rewarding experience for him. A highlight for Tyonne as a senior has been to see many of the student that were apart of the program while he was mentoring as sophomores at the high school level. He is proud to walk the halls and share the same classes with the young people that he once mentored.

Besides being actively involved with his responsibilities as a mentor, Tyonne has been a member of the Trenton Central High School Tennis Team for the past four years. Through that he learned of the importance of teamwork and that creating the right morale will keep others motivated to perform.

Along the way Tyonne has been inspired by the hard work and dedication of his mother, his early mentors that he had in the Go-Getters program, and his tennis coach and technology teacher James Jones. Mr. Jones always inspired Tyonne with his catch phrase “get to work, there is always more work to do.” Approaching graduation, Tyonne can’t see more truth then what is in that statement. He feels he is just getting started on the road to success. Tyonne’s dream is to go to college, major in Business, and eventually become a financial advisor to young people that are often in the dark when it comes to areas of saving and investing. Overall, continuing to give back in the future would give Tyonne the greatest satisfaction as it has done so throughout his whole high school career.
