The Trentonian (Trenton, NJ)

Denzel Davis of Trenton Central High School

-

On December 27, 2000 a baby boy by the name of Denzel Davis was born to Carla Mims, a lovely, independent, and strong single mother. He was born into a big family, with six older siblings. Like many young minds Denzel’s was like that of a sponge. He absorbed all the information that stood before him. Through his encounters, Denzel would be enthused to learn something new and expand upon his knowledge-a trait he still possesses to this day. From an early age, he began to fine-tune his own unique quirks and characteristics, molding himself into an exceptional fine young adult.

Denzel is hard-working, charismatic and an intelligent young man. To ensure that he maintained his academic excellence, and ultimately was prepared for college and its complicated admissions process, Denzel not only took the most rigorous courses Trenton High had to offer, but also took it upon himself to apply to programs such as Mercer County Smile Gear Up and the Princeton University Preparatory Program (PUPP). He knew very well that by going into these programs his social life would be stripped from him. However, he also knew they would instill in him the imperative foundation of a well prepared scholar equipped with the tools needed to unlock his full academic potential.

His accomplishments far exceed that of an ordinary student. Denzel is currently ranked #1 out of the 539 students in his cohort, thus placing him at the top of his class, a ranking he has held all four years. Consequently, he was inducted into the National Honor Society. Yes, Denzel is a smart young man, but he is much more than his academic capabilities. He has shown, through other outlets, that grades alone could not and do not define him. He is very committed to his extracurricular activities. It is because of them that he has developed into a well-rounded person. For instance, he is the captain of Trenton High School’s Tennis Team and is a member of the Ping Pong, Chess and Volunteer clubs. Moreover, he works at the Boys and Girls Club where he motivates the youth of his community.

Denzel plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the field of psychology where he will fulfill his desire to learn about the brain and human behaviors. He plans to dedicate his career to help alleviate those suffering from mental illness in the City of Trenton. He takes pride in knowing that he is an active member of his society and is working towards bettering, not only the City of Trenton, but the entire world.
