Richard Chai of West Windsor Plainsboro High School South
When Richard Chai entered high school as a ninth grader, he was already an over-achiever! Richard had completed a full programming course over the summer and was enrolled in our Honors and Accelerated math program, the highest level of math available in the district. Richard is a mature and talented young man who seems to love learning and flourishes in any academic setting, earning perfect grades along the way. He has distinguished himself as a scholar and a leader with an exemplary work ethic and a natural ability to collaborate with others. Richard was methodical in his course selections, taking every opportunity to advance, particularly in the STEM field.
However, there is so much more to Richard than his outstanding transcript. As a sophomore, Richard was interested in attending the HOBY Leadership program and through it became an Ambassador to the 2017 World Leadership Congress in Chicago. As a junior, he was nominated for and selected as one of nine boys to represent High School South at the New Jersey Boys State program. This year his near-perfect PSAT scores earned him a spot as a National Merit semifinalist. In addition to these impressive achievements, Richard finds satisfaction in his involvement in extracurricular activities. As president of Science Olympiad this year, he works with his team to compete at regional, state and national competitions. He was named a USA Biology Olympiad Semifinalist three years running. From Boy Scouts to Waksman Club to Chinese Club to Tennis, Richard manages to find the time to fit it all in. His accomplishments are truly impressive!
Richard is a bright, motivated and ambitious student who has earned the respect of his teachers and peers alike. There is no doubt that he will continue as a life-long learner and will make significant contributions wherever he finds himself in the future. Congratulations, Richard!
