Education next hot topic for Capital City Black Caucus forum

Education takes center stage this weekend as The Capital City Area Black Caucus’ “Trenton Future Series” hosts a forum that includes Trenton Public Schools Interim Superinten­dent Dr. Ronald Lee.

The Saturday, Oct. 12 event at 12 noon in the Capital Area YMCA located at 431 Pennington Ave. includes Dr. Lee, plus, School Board President Addie Lane and a panel that lists Rev. John Harris, Pastor, Galilee Baptist Church and President of Concerned Black Pastors of Greater Trenton; Jerell Blakeley, Trenton City Councilman; Cordelia Staton, Former THS Alumni and Former Community - Schools Liaison for TPS; Jonette Smart, President of Trenton NAACP; Kevin Wortham, Executive Director, Minding Our Business Entreprene­urship and Mentoring; Perry Shaw, executive director, A Better Way, Inc,;Taiwanda Terry Wilson, Trenton Community advocate; Beverly Smith, TPS school counselor,; Shakira Abdul Ali, director of Health and Human Services, City of Trenton and others.

Mercer County Freeholder Sam Frisby and a CCABC Founder, commented on the upcoming CCABC meeting.

“I am really excited about where we are in Trenton with Dr. Lee and his vision for our students. As well, the new high school is a community jewel and should be a big inspiratio­n to our youth and community. I look forward to supporting our students, our schools, our parents and our city as well as Dr. Lee. This is good news for city families and a new chapter in student success. I hope we can all get on board with making the education of Trenton students our number priority in the city.”

The “TRENTON FUTURE SERIES” sponsored by the Capital City Area Black Caucus, is series of monthly discussion­s on the future of the city and on critical issues and hot topics impacting African American citizens in the Capital City area. These ongoing monthly discussion will be a Capital City Area Black Caucus community outreach and leadership effort to enhance the conversati­on in the community around support of black community initiative­s and black community leadership.
