GIANTS GAMEDAY

-

The Game: Giants (2-3) at Patriots (5-0), Gillette Stadium, 8:20 p.m. (FOX/NFL Network) The Line: New England by 17

History: The all-time series is tied, 6-6. The Patriots won the last meeting in East Rutherford on Nov. 15, 2015. The Giants won three straight matchups prior to that, including two Super Bowls.

Key Matchups:

Giants WR Golden Tate vs. Patriots CB Jason McCourty: Tate had a quiet role in the offense upon returning from suspension last week, finishing with just three catches for 13 yards. He should see a high number of targets now with the receivers corps depleted. McCourty has been one of the best corners in the league. The Rutgers product allowed only three catches on four targets and had an interception last week against the Redskins, according to Pro Football Focus.

Giants LT Nate Solder vs. Patriots OLB Jamie Collins: Solder has had a mediocre second season in New York, particularly in pass blocking. He now faces his former team for the first time. Collins has been incredibly disruptive with six tackles-for-loss, six QB hits, 4.5 sacks and three interceptions.

Giants DT Dexter Lawrence vs. Patriots RG Shaq Mason: Lawrence has turned heads in his rookie season, ranking as one of Pro Football Focus’ top interior linemen in pressure rate. He has three QB hits and two sacks. Mason has stabilized the right side of New England’s offensive line with 60 starts since 2015.

Giants CB DeAndre Baker vs. Patriots WR Josh Gordon: After getting abused in coverage the first two weeks, Baker has steadily improved. That’s a natural progression for a rookie who was immediately thrown into the fire at one of the most challenging positions. The first-round pick will likely match up occasionally with one of Tom Brady’s favorite targets. Gordon is averaging 14.7 yards per catch.

Injury Report:

Giants: OUT: RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), RB Wayne Gallman (concussion), WR Sterling Shepard (concussion), TE Evan Engram (knee). QUESTIONABLE: LB Lorenzo Carter (neck). Patriots: OUT: WR Phillip Dorsett II (hamstring). QUESTIONABLE: RB Rex Burkhead (foot), LB Shilique Calhoun (ankle), S Patrick Chung (heel), S Nate Ebner (groin), WR Julian Edelman (chest), WR Josh Gordon (knee). Giant Facts: Daniel Jones can become the first rookie quarterback in 12 tries to win at New England in the Bill Belichick/Tom Brady era. … New York has scored touchdowns on 53.3 percent of its red-zone trips, which ranks 19th in the NFL. … The Giants’ defense ranks 31st in yards allowed per pass attempt (9.1), while the Patriots’ unit leads the league (4.5). The Prediction: Patriots 35, Giants 10
