Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market postpones
TRENTON » Another popular event has been postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market’s spring fling edition, originally scheduled for the weekend of April 4-5, is now set to rock and roll on May 30-31.
“We obviously want to keep the general public as safe as possible by not having a largescale event in the beginning of April,” Joseph Kuzemka, founder of the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market, said Saturday in an interview with The Trentonian.
The organizers decided to postpone the event to provide a better experience for all parties and to heed the advice of Gov. Phil Murphy, who recommended the cancellation of all public gatherings throughout New Jersey of more than 250 individuals as the state deals with this public health crisis.
Also known as TPRFM, these regular flee market events are held at the Roebling Wire Works building on South Clinton Avenue and generally attract hundreds of vendors and large crowds.
One of the lessons from this COVID-19 outbreak is that people and institutions should implement and practice cleanliness and good personal hygiene. Kuzemka said the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market in May and beyond will incorporate these practices.
“We will have handwashing stations; we will be doubling our Porta-Johns,” he said. “That’s something moving forward we are gonna have for now on.”
When the postponed event kick-starts in May, there will still be 500 vendors from 25 states and 2 dozen food trucks, Kuzemka said, adding the “biggest part of this” is making sure the vendors are successful.
“If they are not successful,” he said, “there is no Punk Rock Flea Market in Trenton.”
