Eight area underclass­men get Rawlings All-America recognitio­n

A week after Rawlings-Perfect Game announced its Preseason All-American and AllRegion picks for senior high school baseball players, the organizati­ons are back with their list for underclass­men.

Eight players from The Trentonian’s coverage area received Preseason High Honorable Mention All-American status, while a total of 25 local players were named to their NorthEast Region squads and four more were named in the Atlantic Region.

The Rawlings-Perfect Game Preseason All-Region selections comprise players from nine regions around the country. Each AllRegion team had first- and second-team picks, then honorable mention.

The Hun School came away with the most honorees as five from head coach Tom Monfiletto’s club were named. Leading the list were High Honorable Mention All-Americans Carson Applegate, Ryan DiMaggio and Ricky Erbeck.

Applegate, a sophomore earmarked to attend the University of Kentucky, and Erbeck, a junior slated for Fairfield University, were NorthEast Region Second Team picks, along with Allentown High junior Danny Merkel, Hamilton West junior David Zamora and Delran High junior Tyler Leroy. Merkel, Zamora and Leroy were also High Honorable Mention All-Americans.

The Rawlings-Perfect Game NorthEast Region consists of players from New Jersey, Connecticu­t, Delaware, Maine, Massachuse­tts,

New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

DiMaggio, a sophomore aiming toward Boston College, was a NorthEast Honorable Mention pick, along with Northern Burlington junior Ryan Dromboski and sophomore Drew Wyers, both of whom also received High Honorable Mention All-American status.

Dromboski and Wyers, who is on Stetson’s radar, were two of head coach Rick Doppler’s Greyhounds three players on the NorthEast Honorable Mention, including C.J. Fredericks.

Joe Drulis’ Notre Dame High squad had the most local players named NorthEast Honorable Mention (and second most overall) with juniors Gavin Martin, Josh Petrone and Jake Renda, plus sophomore Kenny Schirmer.

Hun’s Carson Wehner was another NorthEast Honorable Mention choice with West

Windsor-Plainsboro South’s Cooper Athey, Allentown’s Matt Bethea and Mike Timberlane, Hopewell Valley’s Michael Boyer, Nottingham’s Cesar Camacho, Princeton High’s Tommy Delany, Hamilton’s Danilo Perdomo, Lawrence High’s Hunter Rivera, plus Hightstown’s Jared Stillwagon and Aaron Winzinger. Jake Cheeseman, a Delran resident who attends King’s Christian, was also on that list.

Hun School sophomore Jackson Kraemer was an Atlantic Region Honorable Mention selection. The Atlantic Region includes players from Pennsylvan­ia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

Neshaminy High’s Jake Kozlowski, Pennsbury’s Jake Schilling and Holy Ghost Prep’s Shane Turpin joined Kraemer on the Atlantic Region Honorable Mention.
