Indoors? I’ll stay out

Welp, New Jersey has finally caught up with the rest of the country with Gov. Phil Murphy’s announcement that gyms are now open and restaurants can open at 25% capacity - on Friday and indoor events can grow and …

And I’ll wait. While I miss going to restaurants, I’m also not ready to walk on in and sit down and order the appetizer. I want to, but I can’t. There’s a few reasons, the main one being I just don’t feel like I’ll be able to relax and enjoy myself. I have been on the razor’s edge when it comes to this stupid coronavirus since day one (actually, day -45, as in January I started screaming from the rooftops) and I’m not ready to let go yet.

Basically, I am 100% fine when it comes to outdoor activity. My kids spent hours every day at our pool community, as did my wife and myself and the hundreds of other members. No one got ill, everyone was pretty good about masks and social distancing, and the kids were … well, the kids were pretty much on top of each other.

But study after study has shown outdoor transmission just isn’t a thing.

Indoors? A different story. Outside of my work at NJ101.5 - where I am in my own studio - I haven’t been in a small enclosed space, and I don’t plan on starting now. I can wait six months for the vaccine … or the 100% treatment … or for science to tell me I don’t need to worry … or for the virus to weaken … or for any number of things to happen. I can also wait for nothing to happen, and find out this is just the new, horrible normal. Regardless, I’ve waited six months, and I can wait another six months.

I know I’m on the far end of this, and my take on this issue is no more or less valid than yours. You want to go to a restaurant, please - please! - do. I’m not saying not to; I’m saying I don’t think I can.

As for gyms? Well, I’ve avoided them for the last few decades, no point in starting now.

As for anything else indoors? Listen, I’ll bop into the supermarket or Target, but that’s about it. I want big spaces, outdoors preferably, and that’s that.
