Six from CVC seeded in top four for Central Super Region
The pairings were released on Monday for this weekend’s Central Super Region at Hunterdon Central, and six Colonial Valley Conference wrestlers have managed to be seeded in the top four of their 16man brackets.
The highest seed for a CVC wrestler went to Hightstown’s Bryan Bonilla, who sits atop the 220-pound bracket as the No. 1 seed. A state qualifier who was fourth at regions last year with a record of 39-6, Bonilla is on course to win his 100th career match this weekend.
Hopewell Valley’s Josh Beigman is next in the second spot at 182 pounds. Receiving number 3 seeds were Robbinsville’s Drake Torrington (132) and Princeton’s James Romaine (160). Hightstown heavyweight Brenden Hanson and Hopewell Valley’s 195-pounder Brian LaCross each received No. 4 seeds.
Torrington will open against Hopewell Valley’s Joe Vannozzi in a 132-pound weight class that also includes Hamilton’s Angelo Migliaccio, Hightstown’s Robert Fattore and Notre Dame’s Nick Franzen.
The Central Super Region consists of regions 5 and 6.
The 106 through 145 weight classes will take place on Saturday and the 152 through heavyweight classes will be held on Sunday. There will be morning and afternoon sessions each day with the weights split up.
The top four finishers in each weight class at super regions will advance to the state tournament, which will take place the following
weekend at Phillipsburg High.
Any wrestler who loses in the first round of super regionals is out of the tournament. To compete in wrestle-backs, a wrestler must advance to the second round.
In addition to the top 16 in each weight, eight alternates were selected for each weight class for super regions. Should a wrestler choose not to compete in super regions — and you can be sure there will be plenty of those among the lower seeds — an alternate will be offered the chance to take his spot.
Host Hunterdon Central has two No. 1 seeds in Nick Canonica (138) and Colton Washleski (160). Norm Cella is seeded second for the Red Devils at 170 pounds.
