Notre Dame knocks off Hamilton

LAWRENCE >> The Notre Dame High School softball team was able to remain undefeated Saturday, but it was far from easy against a vastly-improved Hamilton West squad.

Riding the strong pitching of freshman Rylee Michalak and heavy hitting of senior catcher Emily Reinstein, Notre Dame prevailed over the Hornets, 4-1.

Michalak yielded four hits and struck out 15. Reinstein, meanwhile, doubled and homered. In addition, freshman Helen Woloshyn collected two hits and stole three bases.

Allyson Fonollosa threw well for Hamilton (6-3) with a six-hitter and six strikeouts. Cierra Acevado was the hitting star for Hamilton with a double and home run. Hamilton (6-3) 000 001 0 — 1 4 0

Mackenzie Martin had three hits, while Sofia Papa (double, triple), Haley Krebs, Alexa Klepper (triple) and Ava Goodman all had two. Shea Krebs got the win with a six-hitter and Sam Shaw took the loss despite striking out eight.
