1. The ideal candidate for this colorful, 60-year-old Special Forces unit can do 70 pushups, 80 sit-ups, run two miles in 13minutes, and swim 50meters in full uniform, including hat.

2. Similar criteria is required to enter this older formation that ranges every US conflict, having been first formed by Colonel Benjamin Church a century before the Revolution­ary War.

3. This special operations force is an abbreviati­on, but given its amphibious history that includes OSS Operationa­l Swimmers and Underwater Demolition Teams, it’s quite fitting that it’s also a semiaquati­c mammal.

4. There are two components of this force: ground and air. However, since they are under dual control of state and federal government­s, there are 54 units.

5. Each military branch has this augmentati­on component, whose members commit to about 39 days of annual service.
