SCOUTING FAIRFIELD: Jay Young’s Stags have won four straight to pull themselves into the top half of the MAAC, including a victory over first-place Siena in which they overcame a 1-for-22start to the game . ... Fairfield shoots a lot of 3s (21.9per game) but does not make many of them (5.9made 3s per contest). That averages out to 28.3% from beyond the arc, which ranks 10th in the MAAC. In fact, only Rider makes fewer 3s per game than the Stags and the Broncs have attempted a league-low 284treys . ... Still, Fairfield has players who can get hot. T.J. Long, a lefty who is shooting as soon as he touches it, made six 3s against Rider in this fixture last season. Both Long (30⁄1%) and Jake Wojcik (20.5%) are way below what they are capable of after shooting 40.3% and 34.5% on 3s last season, respectively . ... While the Stags have struggled to shoot the 3, they defend it better than anybody in the league. They lead the MAAC in 3-point field goal percentage defense (29⁄7%) and scoring defense (63.8points) . ... Point guard Caleb Fields (12.2points) has been a solid addition and big man Supreme Cook (13 points, 8.6rebounds) is having a strong season.
