ND duo of Hughes, Buecker to get Trenton Softball HoF scholarshi­ps

Four Notre Dame High School senior baseball players will receive $4,000 scholarshi­ps at this year’s Trenton Softball Hall of Fame banquet on April 30, including Jack Hughes and Brendan Buecker.

An excellent student with a GPA of 3.7, Hughes plans on studying business when he enters Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa., in the fall.

Listed as a first baseman/ outfielder on the Notre Dame roster, Hughes was ripping the ball at a .464 clip following Tuesday’s play and had already bashed two homers and driven in 13 runs.

Hughes has already been named to all-county and all-area teams in both baseball and football. Among his extra curricular activities are the Special Olympics and Catholic Athletes for

Christ.

Also a fine student with a 3.4 GPA, Buecker will continue his education in the fall at Monmouth University and would eventually like to join the military through the Army ROTC.

As is the case with Hughes, he also has played football and baseball at Notre Dame and has been named team captain in both sports.

Off to a great start this year with a batting average of .464, two homers and a team high 14 RBIs, Buecker has been named first team all-county and allconfere­nce in baseball as a catcher and in football as a defensive back.

He has been ranked as the second best catcher in the state and received Northeaste­rn region pre-season honorable mention recognitio­n in baseball.

Buecker is also the leader of the school’s Catholic Athletes for Christ program.

This year’s inductees in the Trenton Softball Hall of Fame’s player divisions are Charles Maxwell, Mike Matto, Eddie Rosado, Frank DiRe, Mark Drew, Chris Russell, Patty Kinghorn and Kerin Pearson.

Frank Pasquito (Player/ Manager Division) and Princeton’s Van Service’s Lou Decibus (Sponsorshi­p Division) will also join the hall.

The softball players receiving scholarshi­ps are Steinert’s Ceara O’Neal and Isabella Bonacci. In addition, to Buecker and Hughes, Notre Dame baseball players to receive scholarshi­ps are Logan and Lance Eilbacher.

The banquet will be held next Sunday on April 30 at John Henry’s Stone Terrace in Hamilton Township. Tickets are $65 per person and can be purchased by calling Artie Kearns at 609771-6143 or Ed Fedorko at 609226-6648.
