HAMILTON >> After soccer in the fall and then basketball in the winter, Morgan Bressler needed something do in the spring of her freshman year, so she figured she would try lacrosse.

The Hamilton West junior tried and succeeded immensely, reaching the 100-goal milestone on Monday afternoon in the Hornets 13-2 win over Burlington City on Cowell Field at Veterans Park.

The significant goal came on a free position shot with 12:48 left in the first half.

“I was really nervous before the game,’’ admitted Bressler. “It’s not every day you get a chance to score a 100th goal. There were tons of jitters and things running through my head.’’

When Bressler lined up for the shot, there wasn’t a lot of thought or positioning.

“I only thing I thought was make it,’’ said a relieved Bressler.

The Hornets (5-3) came out and took control early and cruised to an 8-0 lead at the intermission and cleared the bench in the second half to keep the Blue Devils winless at 0-6.

Bressler, who now has 101 goals, led the scoring with four goals, Ava Rogalinski had three with an assist, Amelia Reed caged a pair with Brielle Maigue, Erin

Gioscio and Mame Gueye all getting a goal.

Bressler and Maigue also had assists.

Geri Angeles and Symia Brazeltonon scored for City and the Blue Devils goalie recorded 14 saves.

But, the afternoon belonged to Bressler as she became the fourth West player to reach the 100-goal plateau.

LaShay Ross (2015) is tops in the West record book with 133 goals, Erin Septer (2013) had 129 and Melanie Meara (2017) finished

with 102.

“She is really a nice team player and she’s happy with the goals, but all Morgan wants is the team to win,’’ said Hamilton West coach Katie Bloodgood. “She is a player that is always going to go to the goal and fight for it.’’

Bressler never envisioned scoring 100 goals in lacrosse as she always felt she was a soccer player.

“My main sport was soccer and I always dreamed of playing soccer in college, and here I am scoring 100

goals in lacrosse as a junior,’’ said Bressler. “I just started playing freshman year and coach B (Bloodgood) said soccer and lacrosse are similar.’’

So, what do you think of lacrosse now, Morgan? “I love it,’’ see declared. Now, she is grateful to be part of Hornet history.

“This means a lot and I couldn’t do it without my team,’’ said Bressler. “I am so proud of where we are and where we are going. It’s only going to get better from here.’’
