WHO: Princeton (0-0) vs. Rutgers (0-0)

WHEN: Monday, 7p.m., CURE Insurance Arena, Trenton

TV/ RADIO: Peacock/ The Varsity Network

SERIES HISTORY: Princeton leads, 75-45, but the rivalry hasn’t been contested since a 78-73Tigers victory on Dec. 11, 2013in Piscataway. Henderson is 2-1as a coach against Rutgers, but never lost to his instate rival as a player.

KENPOM RANK: Princeton 123; Rutgers 59

SCOUTING PRINCETON: The Tigers went 23-9last season and reached the Sweet 16after upset victories over Arizona and Missouri in the NCAA Tournament. But three starters from that team — Tosan Evbuomwan, Ryan Langborg and Keeshawn Kellman — all graduated. That’s left Henderson with a relatively new roster, although he’ll look to the experience of senior Matt Allocco (10.7points, 4.8rebounds) to steady the ship. Evbuomwan will go down as one of the best player’s in the program’s storied history, but he was such a unique player that it can’t be duplicated. Look for Princeton to try and push the tempo with Allocco, sophomore Xaivian Lee and freshman Dalen Davis. Sophomore Caden Pierce (8.2points, 7.3rebounds) won Ivy Rookie of the Year last season and senior Blake Peters (40.5% from 3) will both have bigger roles. Senior Zach Martini (6-7), junior Philip Byriel (6-9) and sophomore Vernon Collins (6-10) are the big man options. SCOUTING RUTGERS: The Scarlet Knights just missed the NCAA Tournament last season, but they should be back in contention this season if the offense can match the defense. Rutgers held opponents to 61.1 points per game, which ranked 11th nationally, and returns the rim-protecting 6-11, 2440-pound center Clifford Omoruyi. Although it did graduate defensive ace Caleb McConnell, coach Steve Pikiell thinks his team has the ability to match that defensive effort because of its length and athleticism. Offensively, Rutgers is looking for sophomore guard Derek Simpson (7.1) points to make a leap alongside UMass transfer Noah Fernandes (45.2% from 3last season). Aundre Hyatt and Antwone Woolfolk are returning front court performers and freshman Gavin Griffiths has a reputation as a knockdown shooter. Senior Mawot Mag’s ACL injury last season coincided with Rutgers’ slide and his return at some point will be a boost.
