The City of Trenton Division of Planning and the Office of Transit, Bicycle, and Pedestrian Planning at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) have received the Complete Streets Excellence award for their community outreach efforts related to Our Streets: A Trenton Bike Plan for All.

Our Streets was a summer event hosted by the City of Trenton and DVRPC in collaboration with the Trenton Cycling Revolution, East Trenton Collaborative, ArtWorks, and the Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund. It featured free bike tune-ups, prizes, a family-friendly bike obstacle course, a team-painted street mural, free food, and more. The event provided residents with feedback on the Trenton bike trials, including the location of lanes, the type of infrastructure provided, and tradeoffs with other street infrastructure. Feedback was also given on the trail plans and the vision zero action plan.

“I’m thrilled that the City received recognition for its partnership with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) for community engagement on our bike paths and trail plans,” said Gusciora. “The Complete Streets Excellence Award is a feather in our cap for urban streetscape designs. It reaffirms that our work is responsive to public needs and in making our streets, bike paths, and trails accessible and safe for our residents.”

Shereyl Snider and the East Trenton Collaborative were also awarded the Complete Streets Champion award for their neighborhood traffic safety audit that led to the Inspired Safe Streets — East Trenton Neighborhood project. This project will address some of the issues identified in the audit.

The awards were presented during a lunchtime ceremony at the 2023 New Jersey Complete Streets Summit on Wednesday, November 1 at College Avenue Campus Student Center at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. The Summit brought together planners, engineers, public officials, health professionals, advocates, and others involved with shaping communities throughout New Jersey. Event session topics included institutionalizing Complete and Green Streets policies, lessons learned from implementation, and what is in store for the Complete Streets movement.
