Steinert graduate Giordano shining for Centenary

Trevor Giordano has shown great talent on the court at Centenary University whether it was as a starter or coming off the bench.

Giordano, a senior, played at Steinert and has been a key to the past and present success of the Hackettstown university.

Centenary, coached by former Trenton Catholic star Chris LaBelle, started off slowly but has come together and gotten a couple wins, and a lot of it has to do with the play of Giordano.

The senior had a careerhigh 20 points twice this season against Kings College and Sarah Lawrence.

“Trevor has really come into his own this season on the floor,’’ said LaBelle. “You can tell the game is really starting to slow down for him and he is making shots at a high rate.’’

Giordano has been in double figures in six of the Cougars’ last seven games and is averaging 10.5 points a game with 13 steals and 18 assists.

Centenary is a very young team, including Ewing freshmen Kenneth Rankin and Naire Preston, and Giordano has shown great leadership in bringing the young Cougars along.

“While Trevor’s play on the court has been great, his leadership is what really makes him stand out,’’ said LaBelle. “He not only holds himself to a very high standard, but he expects the same from his teammates and I’m very lucky to have him as a captain. With such a young team his leadership and skills on the court are going to be huge for us as we get ready for the second half of the season.’’

Rankin leads the team with 12.9 points a game, a team-high 5.5 rebounds and a team-high 23 assists.

Preston averages 9.8 points a game and he has a team-high 17 steals.
