SCOUTING IONA: The Gaels are under the direction of Tobin Anderson after Rick Pitino’s three seasons in charge ended with a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. Iona is starting to find its stride after a slow start with a totally new roster, save for 7-footer Osborn Shema, who is the lone holdover from the Pitino era. The Gaels have won four of the last five, including the last two without leading scorer Idan Tretout (14.3points). The Harvard grad transfer has been dealing with an ankle injury he picked up against Quinnipiac two weeks ago. In his stead, 6-5junior college transfer Greg Gordon has stepped up and is coming off a 35-point, 12-rebound effort in the win over Fairfield. Gordon is averaging 14.3points and 6.8rebounds. Other key contributors include Wheza Panzo (9.4points), Jeremiah Quigley (9.3points, 43.5% on 3s) and Jean Aranguren (8.6points, 48.8% on 3s). Iona has seven players averaging over 20 minutes per game as a staple of Anderson’s teams form his time at the Division II level and last season at Fairleigh Dickinson is the all-out pressure. The Gaels lead the league in forced turnovers per game (15.6), turnover margin (+4.90) and assist/turnover ratio (1.34).
