Princeton men’s lax falls to No. 1 Duke
DURHAM, N.C. >> The Princeton men’s lacrosse team got it shot at the No. 1-ranked team in the country.
While the Tigers may not have connected, they still return home from a weekend on Tobacco Road with a split.
Dyson Williams scored five goals, Josh Zawada added four and Duke surged past the 14th-ranked Tigers, 17-8, on Sunday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium.
Princeton (3-2) got out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Chad Palumbo and Sean Cameron, but the Blue Devils (5-1) showed why they are a national championship contender by ripping off a 9-0 run to take control of the game.
The Tigers were hoping for a sweep after they knocked off North Carolina on Friday night. That 15-9 victory over the Tar Heels included a highlight-reel goal from Coulter Mackesy when he beat a 10-man ride with a shot from midfield.
Mackesy and Colin Burns both scored twice against Duke.
Women’s Lacrosse RUTGERS 15, OREGON 7 PISCATAWAY >>
Ava Kane and Cassidy Spilis scored three times each and the 22ndranked Scarlet Knights (5-1) tallied seven of the game’s first eight goals as they handed the Ducks (4-1) their first loss. Spilis upped her season total to 26 goals.

Trevor Cohen and Pete Durocher hit RBI singles in the ninth inning and the Scarlet Knights (8-2) continued their strong start to the season by taking two of three from the Bucs (5-6) after a victory in the rubber game of the series.

Luke Stevenson launched a 3-run homer in the fourth inning to send the 16th-ranked Tar Heels (10-2) to a three-game sweep over the Tigers (1-5). Matt Scannell and Jordan Kelly had two hits each for Princeton.
Softball RUTGERS 10, RIDER 2 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. >>
Morgan Smith and Payton Lincavage both homered and the Scarlet Knights (13-7) runruled the Broncs (4-5) in the final game of the Mizuno Invitational. Abby Cruz hit a solo shot for Rider.
SOUTH CAROLINA 4, PRINCETON 1 ORLANDO >>
Riley Blampied slugged a two-run homer and the 22nd-ranked Gamecocks (18-2) defeated the Tigers (5-4) in the finale of the UCF Knights Classic. Lauren Sablone knocked in Princeton’s lone run with a single in the sixth inning.
