Rutgers falls to Ohio State in regular season finale

PISCATAWAY >> Roddy Gayle Jr. scored 14 points and Ohio State never trailed in a 73-51 romp over Rutgers on Sunday to close out the Big Ten Conference regular season.

Gayle made 6 of 11 shots with two 3-pointers for the Buckeyes (1912, 9-11), adding five rebounds. Bruce Thornton totaled 11 points, six assists and five rebounds. Felix Okpara and Jamison Battle both scored 10 with Okpara grabbing eight boards.

Aundre Hyatt led Rutgers with 11 points. Clifford Omoruyi finished with 10 points and seven rebounds before fouling out with 7:12 remaining in his final home game for the Scarlet Knights (15-16, 7-13). Rutgers has lost three in a row and six of its last seven heading into the conference tournament that begins on Wednesday.

Coulter Mackesy scored three times, Michael Gianforcar­o made 14 saves and the 15th-ranked Tigers (4-2) went wire-towire in a dominating victory over the 16thranked Scarlet Knights (5-2) that returned the Tots Meistrell Cup to Old Nassau.

Princeton forced 21 turnovers, and longstick midfielder Michael Bath set a single-game program record with six caused turnovers. Nate Kabiri, Sean Cameron and Tucker Wade all caged two goals.

Shane Knobloch scored twice for Rutgers.

Katie Walsh scored five goals, with her final tally in the fourth quarter capping off a 7-0 run that rallied the Broncs (51) to a victory over the Monarchs (3-5). Kylee Garcia added two goals and two assists for Rider, which went 4-1 on a five-game homestand.

Zack Konstantin­ovsky got touched up for five runs in six innings and the Scarlet Knights (10-4) dropped two of three against the Panthers (511) as they lost a series for the first time this season.
