R’ville has quickest 4×100 of CVC schools

PHILADELPHIA >> The Robbinsville boys produced the fastest 4×100 relay among CVC schools at the Penn Relays for the second straight year.

At the 128th annual carnival of track & field, the team of Mitchell Shapiro, Maxim Rychkov, LeBron Rose and Mateo Mosquera clocked a 43.24 trip around the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field on Friday afternoon.

That time was good for second in the heat behind Petersfield of Jamaica (43.14) and just ahead of Timber Creek (43.48). It also bested the 43.34 it ran here last year.

Overall, the Ravens posted the 49th quickest time out of the 606 school that started. However, it wasn’t enough to earn a bonus race on Saturday, as you typically need to be sub-43 in order to give yourself a chance to return the next day.

The top nine qualified for the Championship of America, while there were wildcard spots for the next nine quickest International, National and Northeast teams.

Notre Dame was second fastest of the CVC teams after Aldric Crawford, Christopher Young, Jordan Scipio and Andy Zigbuo put down a 44.70.

Trenton High was the lone local to win a 4×100 heat when Jahair Williams, Janiel Lince, Alex Castenada and Daryl Crawley clocked 44.77.

In the early-morning 4×800, West Windsor-Plainsboro North ran the 19th fastest time when it posted a 8:01.12, which was good for 10th in its 18-team heat.

Subomi Allison got the Knights off to a good start with a 1:56.46 opening 800, the second quickest in the heat, before they dropped back over the next two legs.

Luke Ferrer ran a 2:01.72 anchor leg to bring WW-PN back into the top 10 after it had dropped to 18th place.

Among New Jersey schools, the Knights had the fifth fastest time behind Cherokee (7:51.14), Toms River North (7:52.51), West Orange (7:54.27) and Union Catholic (7:58.13).

The top 12 overall times qualified for the Championship of America on Saturday.
