Mariners agree to trade Cano, Diaz to Mets

The Seat­tle Mariners will trade Robin­son Cano and Ed­win Diaz to the New York Mets for a out­fielder Jay Bruce, righthanded re­liever An­thony Swarzak and three prospects: out­fielder Jarred Ke­lenic and right-handed pitch­ers Justin Dunn and Ger­son Bautista.

Mul­ti­ple re­ports said Seat­tle will send $20 mil­lion to New York as part of the pack­age. The med­i­cal staffs from both teams must ap­prove the re­ports of the play­ers in­volved, and Com­mis­sioner Rob Man­fred must ap­prove the fi­nan­cial as­pect of the deal. These el­e­ments are ex­pected to be com­pleted Mon­day.

Cano is owed $120 mil­lion over the sec­ond half of the 10-year con­tract he signed in De­cem­ber 2013.

The Pi­rates ac­quired mi­nor league right-han­der Wilkin Ramos from Oak­land as the player to be named from the last month’s trade of righthander Tan­ner Ander­son to the Ath­let­ics.
