Mariners agree to trade Cano, Diaz to Mets
The Seattle Mariners will trade Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz to the New York Mets for a outfielder Jay Bruce, righthanded reliever Anthony Swarzak and three prospects: outfielder Jarred Kelenic and right-handed pitchers Justin Dunn and Gerson Bautista.
Multiple reports said Seattle will send $20 million to New York as part of the package. The medical staffs from both teams must approve the reports of the players involved, and Commissioner Rob Manfred must approve the financial aspect of the deal. These elements are expected to be completed Monday.
Cano is owed $120 million over the second half of the 10-year contract he signed in December 2013.
The Pirates acquired minor league right-hander Wilkin Ramos from Oakland as the player to be named from the last month’s trade of righthander Tanner Anderson to the Athletics.
