ANA­HEIM FIRES RANDY CAR­LYLE AMID TEAM’S SEVEN-GAME LOS­ING STREAK

The Ana­heim Ducks fired coach Randy Car­lyle on Sun­day amid a se­v­engame los­ing streak.

The Ducks an­nounced that gen­eral man­ager Bob Murray would take over as in­terim coach for the re­main­der of the reg­u­lar sea­son. Ana­heim will name a new coach fol­low­ing the sea­son.

“Dif­fi­cult de­ci­sions need to be made when times are tough, and our play has clearly been un­ac­cept­able,” Murray said in a state­ment. “We have a tra­di­tion of suc­cess in Ana­heim and we need to get back to that.”

Car­lyle, 62, the win­ningest coach in Ducks his­tory, was in his sec­ond stint with Ana­heim. He led the team to the Stan­ley Cup in 2007 and three ap­pear­ances in the West­ern Con­fer­ence Fi­nal (2006, 2007, 2017). Jets 3, Sabres 1: Blake Wheeler scored the goa­head goal by redi­rect­ing Josh Mor­ris­sey’s cen­ter­ing pass with 3:55 re­main­ing and Win­nipeg won at Buf­faloto snap an 0-2-1 skid.

Dev­ils 3, Hur­ri­canes 2: Mar­cus Jo­hans­son scored twice and a bat­tered Keith Kinkaid made 32 saves and New Jer­sey pre­vented Carolina from mov­ing into a play­off spot with a vic­tory. Nico His­chier set up all three goals to help the Dev­ils snap the Hur­ri­canes’ three-game win­ning streak and hand them only their fifth loss (135-1) in 19 games.

Wings 2: Do­minik Kahun had two goals and an as­sist, Cam Ward made 43 saves and Chicago won at home against Detroit for its sev­enth straight win.

Is­lan­ders 2, Wild 1: Devon Toews scored the tiebreak­ing goal early in the sec­ond pe­riod, Thomas Greiss stopped 26 shots and New York beat vis­it­ing Min­nesota. Anthony Beauvil­lier also scored for Metropoli­tan Di­vi­sion-lead­ing New York, which won for the fourth time in five games. Bruins 2, Avalanche 1 (OT): Brad Marc­hand scored 4:03 into over­time and Bos­ton ex­tended its points streak to seven games with a vic­tory at home over Colorado. Light­ning 5, Pan­thers 2: Nikita Kucherov had two goals and an as­sist to lift vis­it­ing Tampa Bay over Florida. Bray­den Point, Ryan Cal­la­han and Steven Stamkos also scored for the Light­ning. Louis Domingue made 25 saves, and An­ton Stral­man had two as­sists. Rangers 4, Maple Leafs 1: Alexan­dar Ge­orgiev had a ca­reer-high 55 saves to lead New York over Toronto. Mika Zibane­jad, Jimmy Ve­sey and Adam McQuaid scored for the Rangers, who fin­ished their five-game home­s­tand at 2-2-1.
