Nowitzki passes Chamberlain for 6th on NBA scoring list
Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks became the NBA’s sixth-leading scorer Monday night with another of his signature long-range jumpers. Nowitzki took Luka Doncic’s handoff and backed down New Orleans’ Kenrich Williams before hitting a turnaround from the top of the free-throw circle with 8:35 left in the first quarter. The basket brought Nowitzki to 31,420 points in his career, one more than Wilt Chamberlain. The 40-year-old German trails only Kareem AbdulJabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Michael Jordan. James passed Jordan for fourth place on March 6.
Jazz 116, Wizards 95: Rudy Gobert had 14 points and 14 rebounds, Donovan Mitchell scored 19 and Utah won its fourth straight. Nuggets 114, Celtics 105: Nikola Jokic had 21 points and 13 rebounds and Denver rallied in the fourth quarter.
Heat 116, Thunder 107: Goran Dragic had 26 points and 11 assists, Dwyane Wade added 25 points and Miami took advantage of Russell Westbrook’s absence.
Raptors 128, Knicks 92: Jeremy Lin scored 20 points, Fred VanVleet had 13 points and 12 assists, and Toronto rolled. Cavaliers 126, Pistons 119: Collin Sexton scored 27 points, including the goahead 3-pointer.
