Tigers’ Boyd carves up Yan­kees’ hit­ters

Matthew Boyd junkballed his way to a ca­reer-high 13 strike­outs, Gordon Beck­ham hit a tiebreak­ing solo homer in the eighth in­ning and the Detroit Tigers beat the hob­bled New York Yan­kees 2-1 on Wed­nes­day in New York.

The Yan­kees struck out 18 times overall, a team record for a ninein­ning game. Yan­kees short­stop Troy Tu­low­itzki was pulled with a strained left calf.
