Free class planned on pre­vent­ing falls by se­niors

Se­niors and oth­ers con­cerned about the risk of falling are in­vited to at­tend a free six-week class about pre­vent­ing those falls.

The classes start April 16. Ac­cord­ing to www.se­nior­liv­ing.org, “se­niors are at par­tic­u­lar risk of falls, in­clud­ing falls that re­sult in po­ten­tially serious, even life-al­ter­ing in­juries.

The Cen­ters for Dis­ease Control and Preven­tion (CDC) re­ports that one in four se­niors ex­pe­ri­ences at least one fall ev­ery year.” The Cam­bria Com­mu­nity Health­care Dis­trict is part­ner­ing with the county’s Pub­lic Health Depart­ment to of­fer the class series from 2 to 3 p.m. on six con­sec­u­tive Tues­days April 16 through May 21.

The classes will be of­fered in the Old Gram­mar School Board Room, 1350 Main St. Top­ics are de­signed to help se­niors stay in­de­pen­dent and pre­vent falls through ex­er­cise and other means, in­clud­ing dis­cus­sions about fall risks.
