New exhibit at Cambria Library channels inner child
A former high school art teacher has channeled his inner child with his new exhibit at the Cambria Library, on display during the month of April. The common theme among the 17 paintings and 36 drawings is toys.
Frank Walker of Cambria said in an email interview that his decision to focus on classic playthings began with a painting of sock monkeys.
Later, he thought that “a toy series would be great for the library. These are toys of my era, vintage and used,” Walker said of the much-loved playthings, including teddy bears and tin robots.
He spent 31 years teaching Central Valley highschoolers about art and also is a retired, licensed marriage counselor.
He said he’s active in the Allied Arts Association: Cambria Center for the Arts, the Cambria Scarecrow Festival and “the creative community of artists” at Cambria Vineyard Church.
The Walkers have lived in Cambria fulltime for four years and part time for three years before that.
