No ne­go­ti­a­tion with Venezuela’s Maduro, US says

The United States for now has ruled out hold­ing ne­go­ti­a­tions with Ni­colás Maduro and in­stead is fo­cused on how to or­ches­trate a “dig­ni­fied exit” for the Venezue­lan leader af­ter an upris­ing failed to oust him.

“We have been very clear that ne­go­ti­a­tions with Maduro are not pos­si­ble,” a se­nior State De­part­ment of­fi­cial told the Mi­ami Her­ald.

Mean­while, op­po­si­tion leader Juan Guaidó on Thurs­day con­firmed an in­vi­ta­tion from Nor­way to ex­plore po­ten­tial talks. Rep­re­sen­ta­tives from Europe and Latin Amer­ica ar­rived in Cara­cas Thurs­day to of­fer a pro­posal for new elec­tions.
