Arroyo Grande, California - Val Delaney peacefully passed away surrounded by his children on April 27, 2024. Val was born in Montclair, New Jersey and raised in the Bronx along with his two younger brothers. At the age of 18, Val joined the Marines and served during WWII and the Korean Conflict. In 1951, he married the love of his life, Irene, and together they created a life full of love, joy, and faith. Moving from NY with the first 2 of their 6 children, Val embarked on a successful career in the restaurant and airline food industry. After a series of moves around the country (and 4 more children), Val settled the family in S. California in 1972. Retiring from the corporate world in 1990, Val and Irene relocated to Arroyo Grande where they formed lasting friendship­s in their community of St Patrick’s Church and Sunrise Terrace. They pursued their love of travel - embarking on many adventures around the globe. Val was also the force behind three successful local restaurant­s - endeavors of which he was so very proud of. His love for his family was immense and Val cherished family time - traveling, playing bocce, enjoying a meal, and, of course, a rousing game of Spoons! Val is pre-deceased by his wife, Irene, brother, Jack and sister-in-law, Theresa. He is dearly missed by his brother, Bill, his children Pat Delaney, Beth Delaney, Maureen & John Gutierrez, Kathy & Glenn Essen, Jean & Clark Davis, Kevin Delaney, fourteen grandchild­ren and four great-grandchild­ren. The Rosary will be said at St. Patrick’s Church in Arroyo Grande on Thursday, May 9th at 6pm. A Mass celebratin­g his life will be held on Friday May 10th at 11 am.
