Traditions celebrated in streaming selections
Christmas traditions and themes will be spotlighted in si x one- act plays available for free online viewing from Willits Community Theatre starting Friday, December 18. The popular “Scripted” series includes comedic, suspenseful, and romantic plays selected from more than 130 scripts submitted from across the country and produced in 2015 with local directors and actors.
In addition, WCT will also be presenting a children’s production of holiday favorites titled, “Go Tell It On the Mountain”, available for free viewing starting Dec. 19. Directed by Fernando Silveira, the production includes classic Christmas songs, letters to Santa, a recitation of “Twas A Night Before Christmas”, and an excerpt from “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” by Dr. Seuss.
The show includes the songs Jingle Bells, Oh Holy Night, Holly Jolly Christmas, I’ll Be Home, and others. T he young performers include: Allegra Rose Silveira, Bronach Bowl es, Aria Eva Silveira, Bella Christensen, Andante Silveira, Adagia Silveira, Miles Mattson,, Jerrett Nelson, Hayden Christensen, Paris Hansberger, and Jherek Ford.
Among the Scripted plays, “Outsourcing Christmas” by May Steelsmith follows a brother and sister returning home for Christmas only to find that their parents have gone off to the Bahamas for the holiday and in their place are a stand-in elderly couple that provides for some sharp comedy.
In “Angela’s Restaurant” by Chip Bolcik, hard times have fallen on a generous restaurateur preparing to close her business for good, until she serves one last patron, a homeless woman who turns out to be her angel of mercy.
A humorous satire emerge sin“The True Meaning of Christmas” by Kate Danley when shopping mall employees argue over whether a zombie Santa Claus and vampire reindeer are appropriate for the season. “Two Turtle Doves” by Hal Corley finds two apartment neighbors meeting romantically for the first time on Christmas day when one knocks on the other’s door.
In “Joe & Eddy ’s” by Jim Gordon, a bartender is eerily visited by a spirit from his past. T he origin of a favorite Christmas carol shows up in “No Sound of Music” by Seth Freeman. Directors for the plays include Damian Sebouhian, Dav id Partch, Don Samson, Virginia Handley, Liz Dellett and Kevin Klay.
