UKIAH VALLEY FIRE AUTHORITY

FIRE: UVFA crews were dispatched to the 900 block of Waugh Lane near Talmage Road at 2:47 p.m. Sunday for a report of a small grass fire that citizens had put out with an extinguish­er.

SMOKE: UVFA crews were dispatched to northbound Highway 101 between Perkins and Gobbi Street at 4:42 p.m. Sunday for a report of white smoke under the bridge.

FIRE: UVFA crews responded to the 100 block of South Orchard Avenue at 8:49 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a person starting a fire on the sidewalk near CVS. Battalion Chief Eric Singleton said the person was someone who was setting “a pornograph­ic magazine on fire because he said he didn’t want it to fall into the wrong hands.” Singleton added that the person was “strongly counseled” on the dangers of starting such fires.

FIRE: UVFA crews were dispatched to the corner of North Orchard Avenue and Brush Street at 2:06 a.m. Thursday for a report of grass on fire.

POLICE REPORTS

DUI: An officer stopped a vehicle in the 500 block of East Perkins Street at 2:13 a.m. July 31 and arrested Buffy Lyons, 46, of Ukiah, on suspicion of driving under the influence. She was booked into Mendocino County Jail.

BURGLARY: An officer responded to the 200 block of Wabash Avenue at 12:33 p.m. July 31 and took a report of a burglary.

DUI: An officer conducting a welfare check on a person in the 1200 block of Airport Park Boulevard at 7:58 p.m. July 31 arrested John Whalen, 33, of Ukiah, on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was cited and released.

LOUD NEIGHBOR: Caller on Leslie Street reported at 12:40 a.m. Aug. 2 having an ongoing problem with her neighbor playing loud music. An officer responded and the neighbor agreed to turn down their television.

VANDALISM: An officer responded to the 600 block of West Clay Street at 3:42 p.m. Aug. 2 for a report of vandalism to a vacant residence and arrested a girl on suspicion of burglary and vandalism. She was booked into Mendocino County Juvenile Hall.

Those arrested by law enforcemen­t officers are innocent until proven guilty. People reported as having been arrested may contact the Daily Journal once their case has been concluded so the results can be reported. In the case of those arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, all DUI cases reported by law enforcemen­t agencies are reported by the newspaper.
